At Brockton, we believe every child is unique and capable of achieving great things. We recognise that some children may need additional support because they have a special educational need or disability (commonly referred to as SEND).
How we support children with special educational needs and disability
Across the schools of The Edge Schools’ Federation pupils with special educational needs and disabilities are identified with regard to the 2014 ‘Code of Practice’ and the ‘Disability Discrimination Act’. The SEND policy is updated annually, and the special needs provision is reviewed in order that all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which is differentiated to meet their needs and ensures inclusion.
Our staff work closely with families to support children with SEND. By working in partnership with parents/carers we aim to give children the support and encouragement needed for them to make progress and enjoy a fully inclusive education. As part of this process provision maps are written for identified children, which establish targets for progress. The targets are shared with parents and children, and progress is regularly monitored. Support for children is provided in a variety of ways but primarily through ‘quality first teaching’ which aims to meet the individual learning needs of every pupil. Further to this, support may be provided by one to one with a teacher, in small groups within the class or in withdrawal groups. Where appropriate, outside agencies e.g. Educational Psychology Service, Speech Therapy Service, Occupational Therapist, etc. are involved in supporting children with special needs.

We appreciate that parents and carers may have concerns about their child’s needs. The SEND Coordinator (SENDCO) at Brockton C of E Primary School is Mrs. Catherine Cowper. Mrs Cowper is always happy to make time for parents who have concerns in this area. If you wish to speak to Mrs Cowper please contact the school office.
