Robins class brings together Key Stage 1 (Reception, Years 1 and 2). Our teacher is Mrs Sally Lockley and our teaching assistant is Mrs Julia Crampton.
About our classroom
Robins is a happy place to be. We aim to create a friendly and welcoming environment for the children, a place where the children can feel relaxed and consequently build their confidence and self-esteem. We strive to promote enthusiastic and motivated learners, children who will ask questions and be excited about searching out answers and making discoveries. In Robin Class we want children to laugh and enjoy their day, to love being at school and love being with each other. We model high standards of behaviour and guide our children to be exemplary members of the school community, caring for one another and treating each other with respect and courtesy.
We create varied and stimulating activities across the curriculum, to promote learning for everyone – and where necessary adapt tasks for individuals to ensure all children can succeed, progress and feel proud. Learning takes place through practical self-initiated experiences to discover; by more focussed tasks with a clear objective; and through the very specific teaching of skills and knowledge. Our aim is for all children to be the best they can be, and for all children to want to be the best they can be. We aim to create resilient and reflective individuals, thoughtful team members and kind and caring members of a wider community.
Smiling happy children, excited about the day ahead and keen to discover and learn and progress is the Robin Class way. Whether we are doing phonics or numeracy, science or art, reading, cooking or writing, we laugh and have fun.
Mixed age classes mean we can teach to stage not age. We are lucky to have a large classroom with additional space so we work in small groups to focus on areas that meet individual learning needs.
It is our job in Robins to make sure your child, whatever their unique personality and needs, enjoys a positive start to school. We aim to nurture a love of learning and discovery that will last a lifetime. We are passionate about books and love reading; many of our activities and lessons are inspired by the books we have read. We also enjoy art and being creative and we spend a lot of time outdoors. We are extremely lucky to have an outdoors area just for Robins, including our very own vegetable garden and greenhouse!
Home learning
We set a short, weekly home-learning task that reinforces classroom learning — designed to take about 10–20 minutes. We encourage daily reading and will send stage appropriate books home with your child.
